|The Spine Registry was developed to track specific spinal implants including pedicle screws, total disc replacement, anterior cervical plates and Bone Morphogenetic Protein (BMP). In addition to implants, this registry captures procedures, diagnosis, fusion approach, patient demographics and complications including infection, VTE, reoperation, durotomy, pneumonia, myocardial infarction, respiratory failure, and epidural hematoma. Like many of our newer registries, the Spine Registry is based exclusively on electronic data extraction.
Currently 4 Kaiser Permanente regions are contributing to this registry (SCAL, NCAL, HI & NW). As of December 2011, over 10,500 cases have been registered, and over 4,000 cases are being registered annually.
This registry has great potential to enhance quality of care by:
- Analysis of trends in device performance and safety
- Determine and compare procedure incidence rate at participating sites
- Timely response in a product recall or advisory situation
- Assisting in implant analysis by tracking long term health outcomes
